What are the boundaries of the “Grand Scheme?” For that matter, what is the “Grand Scheme?” We know that it includes “things” don’t we? “Things” is a rather dull word when one considers the universe. I believe we should include the universe in the “Grand Scheme,” should we not? “The Grand Scheme of Things.” Things?
I’ve long heard of this saying or term when we speak of circumstances we don’t quite know how to put a finger on. Lately, I’ve been wondering if God is part of the grand scheme of things. Why wouldn’t He be included? Well, where is the old belief system that saw us through hard times long ago? The belief system that told us how small we are in the “Grand Scheme.” Yet, though small, we are loved by God. This is what I was taught and I am not a “rube” from the country. Actually, I am college educated, a combat veteran and one who thinks he understands that the “Grand Scheme” has a vector straight to Heaven.
I know, I am old and probably senile in one form or another. Yet, I would rather be senile in my belief system than to depend on this world as part of the “Grand Scheme” that also resides in the eternal. This world allows no chance for eternity does it? Follow the world and rot in the ground with no future, fictional or real. You see, we don’t know much about what occurs after death except that corpses stink, as I learned long ago, and this world offers money, then death for those who pay no attention to the “Grand Scheme.”
Long ago I had a chance to rebuke all that I now hold dear. After Vietnam I went sort of wild when I got home. Eventually, my stupidity caught up with me and tried to kill me. It almost succeeded, almost. Taught me a good lesson, it did, and this is part of the “Grand Scheme,” isn’t it: lessons. Do we learn from life’s lessons? Some do. I did. A large stick applied with force to the side of the head is quite often one of life’s lessons. At least, it humbled me down to size. Three months in the hospital after darn near being dead the first 24 hours becomes a lesson taught at the highest magnitude.
“Grand Scheme.” It is something to consider when we speak or consider the reality of God. Better to get these matters settled before death takes us isn’t it? After death we become quite unceremonious. This I know quite well. Have you ever seen an empty suit or dress or uniform? Haunting.
