Balance

Shall we speak of balance for a few hundred words? I’ve long been searching for the difference that history makes on human kind. History, a record of total screw-ups, sprinkled with a tiny portion of magnificence. Magnificence outweighs screw-ups so a tiny bit of the “magnificence” balances the scales. Of course, nobody has to take what I write as gospel but, then again, I am not in the same league as the gospel. Not by a thousand parsecs. Still, I am not as dumb as my reputation says I am either. I just tick and tock along through life. With a few exceptions of me volunteering to lose my life for America. Dumb, looking back. I wouldn’t put myself on the line for communism. Would you?

It is looking back that old farts like me are noted for in comedy routines. Looking back only means that you’ve seen, not all, but most of human stupidity time and time again. I’ve seen at least four wars since I was born. The fact that nukes have not yet been used keeps me wondering: when? Soon? Probably not. Maybe so. This is what experience teaches; nothing is beyond human stupidity. Even killing a planet is not beyond us. A world wide nuclear exchange would be initiated by very, very stupid people. Yet, we walk around and celebrate the genius of Oppenheimer who had the faculties at hand to invent nuclear fission. Now, it seems, we are close to solving the formula concerning nuclear fusion. The same principle that makes the sun we love shine as it does. Call me stupid but we don’t need a sun on the Earth do we? Call me stupid to but I can see no good reason for nuclear fusion.

The question is: Have we gone too far? Bows and arrows and the occasional catapult used to solve problems. Hey, they were all “natural products.” The environmentalists of old used “natural products” to kill each other! Then again, what in this universe isn’t natural? Nothing, or it wouldn’t be here. Science, a losing proposition in human hands. God uses science but He doesn’t call it that. He calls it “matter of fact.” We were created in His image but it stopped with “image.” Little brains do not create universes but nobody got that through their thick skulls until we came to today. “Dark Matter.” Science says that “dark matter:” is what holds the universe together now. A hundred and fifty years ago there wasn’t so much imagination in science. They either knew or they didn’t. No nukes either but, that wonderful “creative engineering” for atomic fission just could not be left to rest.

Do you really not think that God is watching and checking His watch right now? I think it is a stop watch, ticking down. Heaven only knows when we have gone too far. Obviously, we don’t. No, we have no conception of science going too far. Call this syndrome, “lack of balance.” It doesn’t have much of a ring to it does it. The truth rarely does because the truth is so mundane. You know, like that bilge in the bible that science says is horse roar. Except, have they read the bible? Or, were they told by the college profs that that old tome is nonsense and science would prove it to be so. Science, mans excuse for destroying what God created.

How about our work being to pick grapes from our vineyard and sitting in the grass under a shady tree instead, sipping fresh water or sipping from your vintage? Impossible, or planned by our Creator? Think on it and I’ll get back to you.
