You gotta love the title of this article because we all got em. Troubles, some self-made and others not. The worst trouble we have is usually ourselves. No, you know this is true because you’ve gotten yourself in deep more than once. I won’t go into mine here but I have screwed up more than the average man. Difference is, I owned it which is why I stopped doing it. Drinking obsessively was merely one.
What is a guy with two tours of combat supposed to do? Get over it is what daft people will tell you to do. Sure, just get over it. These are people never on the giving side of taking lives. Troubles are logarithmic when it comes to killing but it can be partially put behind you. How? That is individual in nature. Mine was scriptural and the bible is what pasted me back together. You know, God’s word. Try it sometime. Notice I didn’t say: go to church? Folks in church are foreign to what some of us did so church is not what it takes.
Getting over troubles is very personal. Doctors can help, I’ve been told, but doctors who are non-combat doctors have little idea of what taking lives does to a person. We’re not speaking of murder here we are speaking of taking lives, human to human and as kids. A nineteen to twenty-one year old is the average age of those who kill in a sanctioned manner. It isn’t easy at the time unless you’ve been psyched up to do it. That is what boot-camp is all about. It’s OK, you just go kill that person you’ve never met. Problem is, that is what the person you’ve killed was told so it comes down to your life or mine.
Ain’t the human race a wonder to behold? Not really. Not really. God and Christ will be wonders to behold but you don’t understand that reality until you’ve had troubles. This is why I will always recommend the bible as a place to start working on your troubles. God knows exactly what you are going through and He is the only one that does, despite the cries on the side of those who think they know it all. They haven’t a clue about you have they?
