Truth writ, stuffed with guy thoughts: Philosophy, the solution for nothing to say. Socrates, Plato, Melvin Penniwinkle. All philosophers of the highest order, short of the psychiatrist down on Woodburn Ave. So, now that we have mentioned the greats, what are your thoughts on the great men whose philosophy has steered thousands of university and college students?

My own personal philosophy is simply: do no harm. I try my doggone best to not discomfit people unless they are so dense as to not take a hint. Did Socrates take a hint? It doesn’t say, does it? Plato, Irish for Pluto, was rated five stars in philosophy since the second grade yet it is doubtful that he made anyone’s life better. Unless, that is, a guy likes speaking in circles about things that matter only to his dented ego. Then again, there’s always pancakes and bacon. Two eggs over medium or easy if the cook is on his toes and not hung over.

I doubt that there are any modern day philosophers worth a breakfast out. Actually, philosophy is for the high browed and cagey thieves of quiet time at the asylum. Same thing as roaming all over Ancient Greece wondering what to think about next. Far too much time on their hands back then. If they’d moved to Carthage things would have been different in so many ways. Then again, Genghis Khan had a philosophy similar to the Queen in “Alice” – Off With Their Heads. Or, off with whatever. Alice in Wonderland actually made more sense didn’t she?

Then again, there is my simple philosophy of do no harm. It has always been my contention that if we would stop killing one another there would be no need for the philosopher, as God said quite strongly, long before Socrates paid taxes: “Thou Shalt Not Kill.” That is the one I go with all the way.

Then again, I am an old codger, but I am good at it.
