Reality

As if anyone needed a refresher, I want to speak of reality in our times. This is a huge word, reality, as it throws out psychology, moods, trends, fashion and, at times, being nice to others. Reality, the word, includes sickness, death, robbery, murder, losing of limbs, mayhem, and prejudice. There is not enough room on the internet to speak of all parts and phases of reality. Thankfully, most are not subject to the constant beatings of reality. We all have some room to escape reality and that in itself is reality. Each breath we take is reality. Each letter I type is reality. Then, there’s fantasy.

Fantasy, often a word associated with Disneyland, is deemed a place to escape reality, as if any thought that reality can be escaped is true. War interrupts peace often enough that peace seems a fantasy. To live a life of fantasy does not escape reality as reality is the river, unseen but for effect, that turns fantasy to torn remnants. We face reality much more than fantasy and those of us who have been to war know that reality is all that life is about. There is no mistaking reality in war as having the opposite effect of fantasy, unless one has an inclination to murder. That is the only time fantasy and reality clash.

Politics is a fantasy. At its best, politics is kind to those who elect politicians. Reality says that kindness to some is cruelty to others. Then, there is prejudice, a term no one wants attached to themselves yet prejudice is a reality. As is murder, as is lack of choice for one inclined to either of the aforementioned.

Is, is a word for reality. It is. It will be. Truth. Truth is a word exuding reality yet truth is muddied by prejudice and prejudice can easily be attached to choice. Choice is a fallacy in most cases. Allure of one thing or another overcomes fantasy to become reality. To fantasize about something is an attempt to turn that fantasy into reality. So it goes for all of us yet we deny it many times along the way. We deny reality for some idea of fantasy, like all of us getting along. Like politicians actually caring about their constituents. Like tomorrow will come even if what we are doing is dangerous.

This is a treatise on human frailty which, though oft times denied, is ever present upon the choices all of us make. Who to befriend, who to date, who to acquaint, who to put an end to. Combat teaches this to a sickening degree and this is what veterans face the rest of their lives in this so called reality of ours. Life is a controlled detonation and it is naught more than that. It is difficult and there is only one way to be strong as we go through it. Demand reality in all we do. It will be there anyway so choosing it over fantasy is the only way to succeed and success has nothing to do with money. It has to do with mindset. It has to do with God, the Creator of reality. Keep this in mind and you will not be disappointed.
