Once upon a time Persia was the foundation for much of the mathematics and culture that formed what we are today. Iran is a long way from Persia now. There are still brilliant minds coming from there but their government is reprehensible through no fault of the Iranian people. I still refer to them, internally, as Persians. I hope they don’t mind.
I think of Indo-European culture as coming from the vicinity of Persia. Certainly, other countries of long ago were part of this but only one made it all this way into the future. The future. What is coming in the future? A free people as once they were? It is a difficult formula to decipher right now. It is my hope that a proud people will once again taste freedom and self-governance. If I drank I would lift a glass to all the oppressed in what once was . . . Persia. My mind is with you, if that helps your suffering; even if I am a nobody. A toast to your freedom!
