As I have stated here more than once, I am seventy-seven, born in 1948 and was called a “Baby Boomer.” Look at me now and guess what I am? Smarter, but not by much. The ironic thing about America today is that most people who vote don’t understand where in time we are here. The first thing I noticed and that started me down this “Xog Zap” path was the fall of Christianity in America. As a boy we all went to church and, yeah, Sundays were not days kids looked forward to. Sitting in a pew for an hour listening to a priest speaking in Latin wasn’t as good as a pick-up baseball game. Still, our parents were Christian and hard working and there were very few on the government dole. Very dam few! Every one worked and some worked two jobs but prices were substantially lower then so a little money went further for a small family. Hell, everything was comparatively cheaper than today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I knew this by age five because what my mom and dad made was not even scratch money today. However, families were tight and the world was a better place but for the Korean War which was over when I was four. The classic cars we see in car shows today came right off the showroom floor back then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Comparatively speaking, less money then meant harder work and overtime if you could get it. Combine that with common sense and most working Americans got by just fine. But, HEY, looky-looky now. Nobody is happy with all that is available but we do have the internet. The dam internet on phones has changed the complexity of life and pointed people inward. A unit unto themselves not to be bothered by family and friends. You cannot run a large boat this way can you? How about a nation? How about a civilization? Sorry, I’m looking at my bitcoin account so hold that thought. An hour later and we forget what we wanted to say. Oh well, I guess the fire in the kitchen wasn’t that important, we’re insured and we needed a new kitchen anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the problem as I see it at this age. All of this nonsense rather than the heartbeat of living. Of heading out to go to work or have a baseball game in the Spring and summer. Touch football anyone? Down to the river for a picnic, leave your damn cell phones at home or don’t show up! Well, here we are, just the two of us but at least there are no phones. Ludicrous behavior and, oh, so very negative.<\/p>\n
