It may be just because I am an old man but it seems to me that Iran was better off when the name of the country was Persia. As we all understand, there is nothing perfect about our world but it could be that renaming countries is a bit whimsical. It is kind of like renaming a child when he or she arrives at age, well, say eight. We just don’t do this type of thing. As the old and rather odd Zen masters used to say: “What is in a name?” How about consistency? Surely, being consistent is not a bad thing? Being predictable is only shunned in war.
We are at war, now that I mentioned it. My life is replete with war and I even went to war against a nation whose name had been changed quite a lot, Vietnam. Nations names go back to the advent of cataloguing stuff. Indexes, dictionaries, maps. Organization is good but changing definitions is not. Once defined, a thing, person or place should be left alone.
Wimsey is not a good idea when it comes to certainty. Uncertainty is what this world is now reeling from. From the lack of belief in the basics, God, to wanting to whimsically make changes due to bad ideas is not healthy. Biology being the one that stands out in stark relief to our horizon of calm. Of certainty. It stands out as an absurdly shaped idea built of whimsy. One cannot depend on whimsy. One cannot build on whimsy. Whimsy is a U turn back on itself. A rut. A dumb thought that gains momentum like a boulder rolling down a hill. Look out below!
