As I like to keep things simple, so that I can understand them, as I bask in pre-senility, I thought I would mention this planet: Earth. Now, Earth can be capitalized or not as earth has two meanings. One is dirt: lower case “e.” And the other a noun: Earth. In a way, calling dirt earth is accurate but demeaning to this wonder we walk around on while spitting or throwing trash all over the place. Birds, animals and humans occasionally do their duty on the planet also but the planet was designed to not just use this waste material but to turn it into enriched soil. Ain’t it always the little things that either fill you with wonder or gross you out?
The way I look at the Earth is as an invention of perfect mind. Not some accident as the deniers of God would have you believe but an invention of miraculous undertones, overtones and tonaltones. A look from, say, the moon is kind of breath taking don’t you think? I probably saw some of your parents in one of those photographs taken by those who made it to the moon in one piece. Of course, I was in Vietnam when the first moon landing occurred. Somebody had to be there! At least, that is what the government said and we just don’t mess around when we get a draft notice now do we?
If you think the Earth is not miraculous you aren’t thinking correctly. Instead, you’re thinking poorly and without foundation for yourself. You are a child of this planet and that to is slightly, or more, than miraculous. But, how much we take for granted as we denigrate one another and try to get rich or go ahead and shoot somebody because we don’t care for some aspect of them. Silly about covers it.
An expletive is not worth the saying when silly says it all. Not out of our gourd silly but certainly not steady on our foundation either. All foundations are set either on or in the earth, Earth. Being thankful we have an Earth is the way to start understanding how small we all are. How grand this universe is to harbor a little ball of blue and brown just far enough from a hot mother of a star to let us thrive. A few miles either way from where we spin and we’re toast or icicles. Just once, try thanking God that He was the one who made this choice or we, you, wouldn’t be here to spend your day denigrating one another or crapping in the woods.
